Goodness after the Storm: STIAA's Aid for Ondoy Victims

10/13/2010

Almost a year ago, the Philippines, primarily Metro Manila and other parts of Northern and Southern Luzon were struck by typhoon Ondoy, unaware of its strength and unprepared for the damages it can bring.

After almost 24 hours of uninterrupted rain and gusts of wind, the entire nation woke up to one of the most devastating natural calamities that ever hit the country — houses were ruined alongside many other properties, loved ones were lost, and we Filipinos, collectively grieved the aftermath of the incident.

Despite the negative effects brought about by Ondoy, when the sky has cleared, something good still surfaced, this is the people's willingness and readiness to lend a hand and make life more bearable for those who were badly affected. STI Alumni Association Inc. (STIAA) is just one of the many organizations that immediately heed the needs of those who greatly suffered.

Last September and October 2009, STIAA joined STI HQ in providing food, school supplies, and clothing to STI students and alumni, including their families who were badly hit by Ondoy.

More than 200 families from Marikina and Ortigas-Cainta benefited from the relief mission whose ultimate aim was to be a source of hope and optimism to the typhoon victims.

STIAA is overseen and guided by an efficient panel of members namely: Victoria Thelma L. Luz (Chairperson); Elbert L. De Guzman (Corporate Secretary); Leonardo A. Adaptante (Treasurer); and Mitch Andaya (Executive Director) among others.
